During the PhD you tend to work alone most of the time, but you still seek advise and ask questions about your research or how to run studies and interpret the findings. So even though it is an individual piece of work other people influence parts of it or help me with ideas. However, once you completed your PhD you normally work in a team of scientists at your home university. And that team might even work together with other universities, or even industry and government bodies. So the most researchers don’t work on their own at all as many people believe.
