I haven’t read up about this but I think this is quite a serious topic. The water we use from underground water reservoirs is certainly supposed to run out over the next century, but water itself doesn’t disappear as such, it travels in a life cycle. I think one of the biggest challenges to overcome though is how we can claim drinking water from the sea and there is a lot of research and progress on this but it is still a very difficult and expensive process.

I don’t know about the figure or the book, but I definitely think that water shortages will be a huge issue in the future unless we start managing our water supplies better. In many countries there is not enough water already, and many European cities are using up more water than they can. With more people coming to this world every day and more people expecting better conditions (like eating meat, which consumes a LOT of water) if we kept using water the way we do now we would soon run out. The trick is to learn to conserve water and recycle it better!
