• Question: What makes a volcano active or is it just that a volcano is a living thing?

      When the rock inside the earth melts it becomes magma. Being lighter than rock, the magma rises creating pressure. Eventually to magma creeps through cracks and vents. This is when a volcano erupts. A volcano is active when magma underneath is created/present.
